Superenalotto

Superenalotto has been the Italian lottery since its launch on December 3rd 1997 with draws take place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 8:00 PM. Tickets for the Superenalotto cost one Euro for two tries and the object of the game is to correctly match six numbers out of 90. The Superenalotto logo features the Superenalotto name along with a four-leaf clover which is a symbol of good luck.

In the past the six winning numbers were taken from the first numbers drawn in the Lottomatica’s regional Lotto draws but this changed on July 1st 2009 and now the numbers are drawn independently of the Lottomatica draws. In additional to the draw for the six main numbers and the “jolly” number there is a second independent draw for the “SuperStar” number. The Jolly number works in much the same way as the UK National Lotteries bonus ball and gives players the chance to win higher jackpots by matching five of the main balls plus the Jolly number. The SuperStar number can be the same as any of the other winning numbers and can multiply the prize by up to 100.

The odds of winning the main Superenalotto draw are just 1 in 622,614,630 which makes it one of the most difficult games in the world in terms of hitting the jackpot; this regularly results in huge rollover jackpots. On the 4th May 2005, a jackpot worth €71,767,565.57 was won by a syndicate of ten customers at a bar in Milan. For three years, this was the game’s largest jackpot but this was broken by a prize of €100,756,197.30 won by a single ticket on October 23rd 2008. A record breaking prize of €147,807,299.08 was won on August 22nd 2009 by one ticket holder in Bagnone. Players can see if they are winners by checking the draw results on the Superenalotto estrazioni (estrazioni means ‘results’) website.

Of course the Superenalotto is not the only lottery in Italy as they are one of the member countries that take part in the massive Euromillions lottery giving Italians access to two massive jackpots; The Italian Lotto and Euromillions. Through the Euromillions players in Italy have the chance to win jackpots in excess of £50 million especially when this jackpot rolls over.

Superenalotto Italy is considered to be one of the largest lotteries in the world and is comparable to Americas PowerBall lottery and Mega Millions in terms of the numbers of people taking part and the jackpots available. If there is every a World Lottery (which is a distinct possibility) these three lotteries are likely to combine with Euromillions and our own UK National Lottery to form the groundwork’s for what could be the biggest game in history.
